Stream: Forever X2, ‘Everyone Is Famous’

In between the perils of pandemic living and working on his alt-pop project Pete + Sara with his onetime Act As If bandmate Sara Lindsay, singer-songwriter Peter Verdell has put his rocker cap back on, with notable results.

“Everyone Is Famous” is the second single of 2021 from Verdell’s Forever X2, a song that makes power-pop safe for L.A. life, or anyone who brags about their social media numbers. Forever X2’s debut EP came out in 2019, followed early this year by fuzzy speak-singing of “Lost Your Heart.” Because the pandemic has been nothing if not deadpan.

Verdell wrote the new single with Nate Lotz, who drums for Halsey, used to drum for Ryan Adams and has been involved in bands such as Blacktop Queen. “This is the first co-write I’ve done for Forever X2, and it came out of a sporadic text to my friend Nate: ‘You in LA? Let’s hang!’,” Verdell says. “He came over to my apartment downtown and we started catching up about life — touring, girlfriends, normal LA stuff. He started messing around with a drum machine I have, I came up with a chord progression …. and this rad song was born! Inspired by the overwhelming amount of actors I’ve gone on first-dates with, and the overwhelming amount of bands I’ve gone to see.”
