STEEN is the new project bearing the last name of siblings Elijah and Isaiah, SoCal natives who, after life steered them through sports and other entertainment endeavors, got serious about music during the pandemic.
Their first single “Red Lights” oozes an effortless cool — and a little bit of hope that in a fraying world full of four-alarm messes, everything is going to be all right. STEEN’S easy-on-the-ears blend of subdued guitar, warm synth and sanguine vocals make for a song with a big heart.
“‘Red Lights’ is a representation of our destructive patterns and fatal flaws,” the duo says. “The constant motif of ‘playing with fire’ takes you on a very common path that many find themselves trapped in. [It’s a] ballad on guilty pleasures and the consequences that follow, ultimately lead us to the harsh reality that there will always be ‘fire in the streets’ .. but ‘it’s all right.’”
Originally written and produced by the brothers, the song gets some additional polish from producer Justin Raisen (Charlie XCX, Kim Gordon, Angel Olsen, Yves Tumor), who is working with STEEN on new music.
