L.A.-based singer-songwriter Ashe has done nothing but pile up fans since her early days as a featured vocalist on EDM tracks and her ensuing solo work, including the Finneas-produced twin EPs “Moral of the Story: Chapters 1 and 2” in 2019.

Her campaign to be in the conversation as pop’s new It Girl reached full steam as the song “Moral of the Story” gained momentum last year from a look in a Netflix rom-com and a second life as a duet with Niall Horan. And it reached peak Ashe last month when the 27-year-old, born Ashlyn Rae Willson, released the splendid duet with Finneas, “Till Forever Falls Apart.”

This week, she announced the May 7 release of her debut full-length, “Ashlyn” (via Mom + Pop Music), which will include the duet, both versions of “Moral of the Story,” her summer 2020 single “Save Myself” and her new single “I’m Fine,” which came out today.

Blessed with a luminous, All-American girl-next-door voice, Ashe is an assured diarist who makes everyday, relatable things sound revelatory. The conceit behind “I’m Fine” is that we often utter that phrase even when we’re not.

“‘I’m Fine’ is about having that one person in your life that, when you’re trying to fake it and trying to say, ‘Oh, no, I’m doing OK,’ it’s having that one person who says: ‘I know you’re not OK. You can’t pretend with me.’” Ashe says. “And I have a couple people in my life that can always call me out when I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m fine.’ And, yeah, those are the people we need in our lives.”

“I’m Fine” was co-written by Ashe and Noah Conrad (LANY, Niall Horan) and co-produced by Conrad and Leroy Clampitt (Justin Bieber, Lennon Stella).
