Car commercials sell sex as much vehicles, so here you go, makers of sporty compacts, have a listen to Maddie Ross’ new single “Vroom Vroom.”

For Ross, the self-described “gay girl next door,” it’s her first new music since her more guitar-driven 2019 debut album, “Never Have I Ever.” That was co-written with Madison Scheckel — aka Wolfy — who was her partner at the time. Recalibrating after they split, Ross worked with producer/multi-instrumentalist Brian Robert Jones (who among other exploits has toured wih Vampire Weekend, Gwen Stefani and MUNA) on the new song.

Start your engines. “The chorus is meant to be sexy and playful,” Ross says of the tune, which is reminiscent of dance-pop artists such as Robyn and La Roux. “I definitely was implying the desire to be alone with your thoughts and a vibrator!”
