Jairus Edwards, who makes music under the JAiRUS, describes himself as a “old soul.” He grew up raising his voice to the heavens in church and later raised his game by studying at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts and at USC, where he earned a degree in jazz studies.

The Maryland-born, L.A.-based singer-songwriter, who’s working on a new EP, released a couple of singles in 2020 before following up this week with “Groove,” the kind of song that got thousands of pairs of bell bottoms in motion back in the day. “‘Groove’ is inspired by one of my favorite periods of music: the ’70s,” JAiRUS says of the song, which was produced by Cole Mitchell. “I started with a beat then added a bass line and I’ve been groovin’ since. I always want to encourage everyone to be their most authentic best selves and stay groovy!”
