Santa Barbara-bred, L.A. based Madeleine Mayi released her debut album “2/14” on (you guessed it) Valentine’s Day — apt, since it was a collection of indie-pop about love and loss and what those comings-and-goings leave behind.

Her quest to find pop gold resumes with a new single released this week, “Lights Out,” which is at least some sort of precious metal. It’s a silky smooth anthem about being stuck between feeling nostalgia for a past relationship and simply wanting to punch that ex’s lights out.

Co-written with Brian W. Brundage (Rhys Lewis, Cody Lovaas, Emily James) and produced by Cole Mitchell and Brundage, “Lights Out” turns down the intensity of Mayi’s rage, turning into something lustrous while still landing a few punches.
