Video: Night Shop, ‘Forever Night’

Night Shop is the solo project of Justin Sullivan, road warrior, player for artists such as Kevin Morby, the Babies, Flat Worms, Waxahatchee and Hand Habits and a man who wants to “live on eternally in these dreams that I have.”

That’s a lyric in his new single “Forever Night,” the lead song and title track to his first album for Dangerbird Records, arriving Feb. 11. He introduces it with the declaration that “I want to go where the music is loud / And the lights are bright / I want to move myself all around / in a forever night / I don’t want to stop trying / I don’t want to stop trying to learn / Oh, let me burn.”

And the song, open road-worthy guitar rocker, makes one hell of a case for that sentiment.

On the album, made at L.A.’s Valentine Recording Studios, Sullivan is joined by the likes of Hand Habits’ Meg Duffy (his touring compatriot in Morby’s band), Jess Williamson, Anna St. Louis, Evan Weiss (Sparks), Tiffanie Lanmon, Alex Fischel and Jarvis Taveniere (Woods/Purple Mountains), the latter of whom co-produces.

“‘Forever Night’ is a song about feeling grateful and inspired by the pace and lessons of the city and the pace and lessons of getting to experience a life spent playing music,” Sullivan says. “It is a statement of purpose of sorts for this project.”

The video, a vignette symbolizing life as a touring musician, was directed by Jeff Davenport and Cooper Kenward and is set in and around Gold-Diggers.
