There was thunder, lightning and a deluge of Eddie Vedder at last weekend’s three-day Ohana Festival, which returned to Doheny State Beach in Dana Point after a year lost to the pandemic.
A smaller-than-past-years but still sold-out crowd (vaccinated or showing a negative COVID test to gain entry) enjoyed a Vedder tripleheader — he assembled an all-star crew on Friday night to step in to replace Kings of Leon (last-minute cancellations due to the passing of the Followill brothers’ mother, Betty Ann Murphy); he headlined solo on Saturday night; and then he fronted Pearl Jam for their rousing festival finale on Sunday.
The wildly diverse lineup, curated by Vedder, featured the likes of My Morning Jacket (which got an extended set Friday, even after the storm delayed the festival 90 minutes), Brandi Carlile, Spoon, Cold War Kids, Yola, Mon Laferte, Maggie Rogers and more.
Ohana stages a two-day encore weekend on Friday and Saturday, with Pearl Jam headlining both nights, joined by Beck, Carlile, Sleater-Kinney, Lord Huron, Margo Price and more. Here are set times for this weekend.
Above, some highlights from Weekend 1.
