“Stone and Lonely” is not only the title of Pom Poms’ first single since 2017, it’s the answer to the question, “So, Jessie Payo, how did you spend your pandemic?”

Pom Poms, which unites the talents of Payo and Billy Mohler (the songwriter, producer and head honcho of SQFT Records), emerged in 2015 with a stylishly retro sound suitable for the It Girl charisma of the singer. Their album “Turn You Out” came out in 2017.

Payo waited out the pandemic in Palm Springs, and the duo got back to work on new music, including this Velvets-like single that the singer says “could resonate with the feeling [of isolation] and the longing to connect.” “Don’t got a thing to do …” she belts, except “get dumb on trash TV.”

She fires it up in the light-hearted video, which was directed by filmmaker (and bassist for local stalwarts Spindrift) Riley Bray. If there’s one thing lockdown was good for, it’s making friends with a Skeleton Weiner.
