L.A. trio Joy Weather — Brian Ishiba, Ed Baida and Joey Grabmeier — sing the workingman’s blues in a song with bright, C86 guitars on their new single, “For the Weekend.”

“So pull up a chair / To the table of despair / We live for the weekend / Yeah they’re for dreaming,” they lament in their first song since releasing their self-titled album in early 2020.

“This song draws from a time I was burnt out and worn thin,” Ishiba says. “The idea was sparked by an episode of ‘Parks & Rec’ in which Jerry tells Tom ‘Weekends are for dreaming.’ Between working long hours and frustrating aspects of my personal life, I felt trapped. I wanted to write a thematically Springsteen-inspired song — a modern anthem about the universally experienced daily grind of life.”

The new single follows the release earlier this fall of Ishiba’s solo single, “G.U.A.G.I” (Giving Up And Giving In).
