Stream: Alice Bag, ‘Feliz Navidad’

We hereby suspend our rule that we not make a big deal out of cover songs to bring you “Feliz Navidad,” from Alice Bag, punk-rocker, author, educator and all-around local legend.

She writes that her version of the José Feliciano song “was originally a private label, cassette-only release created as a Christmas gift for friends.” It was made with guitarist Peter Atenoff, bassist Paul Perez and backing vocalist Teresa Covarrubias, with Bag herself on guitar and lead vocals and Mike Chaidez engineering.

It’s delightful, though not as much of a hoot as her band’s 2019 holiday song, “No Gifts for Nazis.”
