Ears Wide Open: Fast Color

Fast Color is the Glassell Park-based trio of Sean Doherty, Kelly Larkin and Aaron Frankl, who draw on the early days of rock ’n’ roll in their loosey-goosey garage-pop.
They debuted in January 2021 with the doo-woppin’ single “Love’s Got Me Boppin’,” the kind of a pick-me-upper that’ll bring a smile to the faces of everybody except the most jaded.
Their shambling charm was on full display on the self-titled EP they released in December, four songs that position the trio as possibly the least cool kids on the block but best at having a good time. Take the lead single “Jimmy Red” and its video, filmed on a 16mm camera by Fatos Marishta (with only five minutes of film to roll, the band points out): They stalk the titular character, do some goofy dances and, in general, struggle to contain their laughter. Why should they? For that matter, why should anybody?
