Ears Wide Open: BITTERS

BITTERS

Claudia Mills has worked in just about every facet of the music industry, including songwriting and composing, audio engineering, management, digital content, public relations and licensing.

Last year she and collaborator Harrison Allen released two singles under the name GENE, which largely flew under everybody’s radar — until the band scheduled some February 2022 dates opening for Pale Waves in Mills’ native U.K. Fans of beloved Britpop band Gene, who released five albums between 1995 and 2002, were not amused. The matter came to the attention of Gene frontman Martin Rossiter, who handled it delicately, eventually swapping emails with Mills and giving the fledgling band a little boost when they settled on a new name.

Now a solo project, Mills is working under the name BITTERS.

As for the singles, “Stole Your Car” and “Sick,” they would have been right at home in the alternative rock heyday of the ’90s. Full of bite and spite, “Stole Your Car” is a joyride … if vengeance is your idea of a good time. That single came with a stylish video directed by Brent Campanelli, starring a vintage Mustang convertible that makes our heart go pitter-pat. No, no, no, don’t take that.

BITTERS vow there is more music on the way.
