Wallows, makers of radio-friendly, pop-rock earworms, have announced the March 25 release of their sophomore album, “Tell Me That It’s Over.” First, it carries the golden touch of Grammy-winning producer Ariel Rechtshaid, which makes it a curiosity, if not a flat-out commodity. Second, it’s advertised as touching on “everything from lo-fi post-punk to indie-folk to early-’90s dance-pop psychedelia.” Considering Wallows’ catalog so far … Hmm.

The first taste of the album came last fall in the way of the single “I Don’t Want to Talk.” Today’s news comes with the new single “Especially You” and its video, directed by Jason Lester.

The trio — Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston — made a mark with their debut album “Nothing Happens,” in 2019. The new single bounces along on a carefully dirtied-up low end and handclaps. Minnette says of the song” “It’s about when you’re in the early stages of a relationship and you get so worried that the other person’s mind will change at the flip of a switch. It’s about stressing over the smallest things for no reason, but it’s definitely self-aware about the fact that I’m doing this all to myself.”

Wallows will be playing on Saturday on both weekends of Coachella.
