MALIA, “Only One”

Last year, L.A.-via-Seattle soul singer MALIA — whom we first met via her collaboration with Syd — released her debut full-length, “Unpolished.” Now she’s using her silky-smooth vocals as salve to heal the wounds of a breakup. “Only One” is the first single from a new EP, “What’s After ‘I Love You?’,” due March 4. “For me, this pain was unlike anything I’ve ever felt, and I found myself at rock bottom,” she says. “Once I was able to regain some sense of composure, making music was my only outlet. My heart, mind, body and spirit were calling out for me to create, perhaps as a sense of closure I felt I was lacking.” Catharsis, on low flame:

FATHER JOHN MISTY, “Q4”

Following up the January release of “Funny Girl,” Josh Tillman returns with a new Father John Misty single, “Q4.” Co-produced by Jonathan Wilson, it sounds positively lavish. It’s also the latest sampling of FJM’s new album, “Chloë and the Next 20th Century,” due April 8 via Sub Pop. Credit director Grant James with the credits-filled lyric video. Father John Misty’s Feb. 25 show with the LA Phil at Disney Hall is sold out.

LO MOON, “Stop”

The follow-up to “Dream Never Dies” and “Raincoats,” “Stop” is the latest single from L.A. soundscapists Lo Moon. The quartet will release their sophomore album, “A Modern Life,” on Feb. 25. And Lo Moon plays the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery on June 16 (tickets).
