The Hollywood Bowl turns 100 this year, and there’s quite a party in store.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic today announced the lineup for the Bowl’s centennial season, featuring its usual wide array of rock, pop, jazz and classical music, opera, film and film scores and traditional events.
The musical offerings will truly be cross-generational. They include Kenny Loggins with Jim Messina, Ricky Martin, Boyz II Men and TLC, John Fogerty, Sheryl Crow and Keb’ Mo’, UB40, Nathaniel Rateliff, Trombone Shorty, the Gipsy Kings, Flying Lotus, Diana Ross, Pink Martini, Grace Jones and CHVRCHES, A-ha and Pentatonix. Oh, and three nights of Duran Duran, with fireworks.
Bowl traditions — such as the 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular (this year hosted by Steve Martin and Martin Short), the Sing-A-Long “Sound of Music” and the “Maestro of the Movies” salute to composer John Williams (this year celebrating his 90th birthday) — are also back.
The Bowl’s Jazz Festival returns in June, featuring the Roots, Gregory Porter, Femi Kuti and more. Fans also get a night with Herbie Hancock, two with Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and a George Benson-led smooth jazz night.
Besides 10 nights with conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the L.A. Phil, classical fans will hear the likes of Lang Lang, Joshua Bell and Seong-Jin Cho — not to mention a special night with Itzhak Perlman in September. The Broadway musical “Kinky Boots” by Cyndi Lauper and Harvey Fierstein will run three nights in July. And also in July, a special Tribute to Peggy Lee will feature Billie Eilish, Debbie Harry, Dianne Reeves and more.
Also of note: There’s the 101 Festival in June, happening at both the Bowl and across the freeway at the Ford. It’s free, with registration for tickets opening May 10. And the Bowl is expanding its $1 tickets for Tuesday and Thursday classical performances (and for the Wednesday Jazz Plus shows).
Bowl subscriptions are available now. Tickets via the venue’s Create Your Own Package program will be available March 15. The Bowl’s box office opens for single ticket sales at 10 a.m. May 3.
Below is a list of events the Bowl announced today (this excludes leased shows at the venue). For more information on the shows, including soloists and programs for classical events, visit the Bowl’s website.
