Ears Wide Open: Los Saints

Los Saints don’t mess around on their new single “Fouund You Somewhere”: Some scratchy chords right out of the Strokes playbook, then — bam — the Chula Vista-bred trio launches into a chorus the feels like you’ve just taken off over the deep blue seas west of San Diego International Airport.
Can a blast of garage-rock mend a broken a heart? This one certainly tries.
The trio — first-generation Mexican-Americans Angel Mariscal, Emiliano Garcia and Gianluca Exposito (two cousins and their best friend) — recorded the song with Keith Cooper of Dear Boy. It’s Los Saints’ first release under their newly inked deal with San Diego County-based Enci Records (the Joy Formidable, Beach Goons, Fences, the Aquadolls).
“‘Fouund You Somewhere’ was written at the end of my first serious relationship,” Mariscal says. “It’s about yearning for something that you lost and holding on to what could have been, if things were done differently.”
Mariscal directed the video for the song, which finds the trio in and around San Diego, where Los Saints are already earning notice.
