Ears Wide Open: Still

L.A. quartet Still — singer-songwriter Daniel McDonough, with twins Adrian and Julian Johnson and Wesley Wheeler — deal in dreamy post-punk with all the right touchstones, including the Cure, Cocteau Twins and Joy Division.
In Still’s case, “dreamy” is not just a sonic aesthetic. Many of their songs are informed, in part, by McDonough’s battle with insomnia and a myriad of other sleep disorders. He is said to have driven to work on the freeway one day while asleep.
The quartet released their self-titled debut EP in 2019, and, having worked in the home studio of Neil Popkin (War Tapes, Dreamland, Brass Box) and gotten a final polish from producer Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Yeah Yeah Yeahs), the band is prepping the March 8 release of their second EP, “A Symptom of Fate.”
Director Emma Karla Peet’s video is appropriately hazy, switching from lo-res to hi-res visuals.
