Random missives about southern California music venues …
■ The Sun Rose is the cozy (100-150 cap) music venue located inside the posh Pendry Hotel West Hollywood at 8430 Sunset Blvd. (If that address sound familiar, it’s where the House of Blues once resided.) After a residency earlier this year featuring Jeff Goldblum & the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, the venue formally opened last Monday, hosting an edition of the weekly It’s a School Night. There’s no online schedule yet, but stay tuned.
■ The Goldfish, the Highland Park venue that debuted a year ago in the space formerly occupied by the Hi Hat, has reopened after shuttering during the Omicron wave. There’s not much yet on the venue’s event page, but they are seeking emerging artists to play a Tuesday showcase night.
■ After some challenging delays, AWE Bar, a new venue in Yucca Valley, is shooting for an opening later this spring. It’s a good-looking room.
■ Speaking of the desert, the Alibi in Palm Springs — which suffered the same open-again, closed-again plight during the Omicron wave — will formally reopen in April. Among the shows on the calendar: Bob Mould, the Lemonheads, June of 44 (!), MNDSGN, Pansy Division and the Blasters.
■ Hello Stranger, the bar/venue opening soon on 2nd Street in Little Tokyo, is featured in the L.A. Times.
A venue that will eventually be closing is the Viper Room in West Hollywood. A new music venue will eventually replace it as part of a larger redevelopment project. Here is the evidence: https://deadline.com/2022/03/viper-room-mixed-use-high-rise-project-1234969371/
