Celestial harmonizers Sam Blasucci and Clay Finch — the voices comprising the folk duo Mapache — return this week with a tune that anybody with canine companions can get behind.
“I Love My Dog,” an ode to their 14-year-old Boston Terrier, is the first song on the duo’s third album, “Roscoe’s Dream,” named in honor of that furry friend. Like its predecessors, “From Liberty Street” and last year’s covers album “3,” the album was produced by Dan Horne (Cass McCombs, Allah-Las) and recorded at his Lone Palm Studio.
The album promises to be another foray into California country and its variations, which the onetime La Cañada High School mates have explored so reverently in their early recordings. Farmer Dave Scher of Beachwood Sparks is among the guests.
As for this week’s hero, though, “Roscoe’s been through a lot of shit,” says Blasucci, the dog’s actual owner. “He’s been all around the country, come on tour a little bit.”
“Roscoe’s Dream” will be out June 10 via Innovative Leisure. The visuals for the song come courtesy of Gibb Matthews.
