Josiah Mazzaschi is a busy dude, in bands (Light FM, Bizou) and as a producer-engineer (Night Dreamer, Livingmore, Deap Vally, Small Planets, Fawns of Love, among others). Madeleine Mathews is a dynamic young singer who’s released a Mazzaschi-produced EP and a handful of singles under the name MAWD.

Together, they have released the first single under their new duo project Child Seat. “Fever Dream” is a four-on-the-floor synth-rocker written during the COVID-19 lockdown and wailing with want for it to be over.

“The song touches on being stuck in ‘the in-between’ phase in life and love,” the duo says. “A lot of inspiration was pulled from the sudden change of the pandemic and its effect on both life/love. In life, we were forced to stay put and rearrange our hopes/dreams/aspirations. In love, our relationships changed — we had to adapt to this new way of living, and living with our partner. Reflecting on how things used to be, but now you’re caught in a ‘fever dream’ of this weird phase of life, and that feeling that the grass was always greener/nostalgia for better times.”

The song is the first single from Child Seat’s full-length album, which features contributions from Jeff Schroeder of the Smashing Pumpkins and saxophonist Ron Dziubla. It’s due out this fall.
