With a devoted fan base that needed no encouragement to pack the front of the Moroccan Lounge, Kate Clover came out with arms raised and legs dancing to celebrate the upcoming April 22 of her album “Bleed Your Heart Out.” She tore into her first-wave punk sound with “Tearjerker,” relentlessly driving the crowd to the final notes. It did not take long for her to shed her signature motorcycle jacket and sunglasses. Her guitar strap took a little too much abuse as well, requiring a moment to fix.

“Channel Zero” had the audience dancing deliriously. When she had a moment of imbalance later in the set that nearly caused her to fall to the stage, she decided to have her bandmate join in on the fun, taking the moment to jump on his back until he eventually took a fall to the stage floor. As the clock ticked ever so closer to midnight, Clover asked if anyone needed to show up early to work tomorrow. The standard times of 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. were shouted out, but the winner yelled out 6:30 a.m.

As she introduced her band, she mentioned that guitarist Brandon Welchez was her fiancé, which got a fawning response from the audience. When her language got a bit too spicy, she looked out into the audience in an attempt to locate her father. To make amends to her father, she renamed “Violent Days” to “I’m Still a Virgin.”

Opening up the night were The Reflectors and Tenement Rats. The Reflectors entertained with their pop punk sounds. Tenement Rats, who engaged in the old punk tradition of spitting into the audience, screamed out their vocals, which made perfect sense when singing out songs with titles such as “Crime Pays” and “Decease Desist.”

Beyond the usual merch items you find at a show, Cecil B. Moxie was on hand to do custom embroidery.
