Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Ruth Radelet has unveiled “Crimes,” the first original tune from the former lead singer of Chromatics, who broke up last August.

“Crimes” is a dreamy track that evokes feelings of introspection and has you hooked from the first, echoing note. Throughout the chorus Radelet repeats “Is it easy to start over?” and judging by her relatively quick turnaround from the nearly 20-year group effort that was Chromatics, the answer is a resounding yes.

The track is about reflecting on the decisions we make in pursuit of success. “It’s about the price we pay for our choices, and whether or not it’s worth it,” she says. “The question, ‘Is it easy to start over?’ can be interpreted in two ways – it’s meant to ask how it feels to continually reinvent yourself until you lose sight of who you are. It also asks how hard it would be to walk away from it all.”

Poolside’s Filip Nikolic helped produce the track. Radelet, who last year covered Elliott Smith’s “Twilight” for a Kill Rock Stars compilation, is expected to release more music later this year.

Radelet will perform “Crimes” for the first time this Thursday at Zebulon, where she will be joining former bandmate Adam Miller and his new project, Inner Magic.
