First of a flurry of catch-up posts in which we share new (or new-ish) singles. Check out these from Double Wish, King Mala, Almost Monday and Weathers

DOUBLE WISH, “Meadows”

We’ve followed Double Wish, the solo project of Adam Sabolick (ex-Mt. Ossa, Union Line), since its debut in the middle of last year. This is indie-rocker’s indie-rock, standing tall against the giants of the 2000s. The follow-up to singles “Sugary Plum” and “Edge to Edge,” Double Wish has released “Meadows,” and here it is, on 4/20, a song that sounds like a really buzzed Spoon. Yes, Sabolick, says, “the song is about getting high … not just stoned, but high on the thought of someone you have a crush on.” Double Wish performs a free show tonight at Harvard & Stone, along with Club Oro and Clear Capsule.

KING MALA, “Cult Leader”

King Mala — aka El Paso native Areli Castro — gave us the motion there might be something to this whole “alt-pop” thing with last year’s “She Calls Me Daddy.” Alas, follow-up singles “Golden Retriever Boy” and “Mercy” made our shoulders hurt from shrugging. King Mala is back with the dark, distortion-drenched “Cult Leader.” She has this to say: “I want this song to be two minutes of pure unabashed confidence. I want people to let themselves get lost in the fantasy of the most confident version of themselves (even if it’s a bit toxic). I want this to be a song people turn to when they want to feel like a badass!”

ALMOST MONDAY, “Sunburn”

Almost Monday — Dawson Daugherty, Cole Clisby and Luke Fabry — had a huge 2021, releasing their “Til the End of Time” EP and following up with the single “Cool Enough,” which is either cool enough to be really popular or is being auto-played by a secret streaming factory overseas. The trio’s summery new single “Sunburn” sounds like the ’60s as produced by TikTok. Which is to say, not too shabby.

WEATHERS, “Alone Again” (feat. Robert DeLong)

We confess that we missed this follow-up to Weathers’ 2021 album, “Pillows & Therapy,” when it came out earlier this year. “Alone Again” is kind of a quarantine redux (only the “normal” kind of my-friends-bailed-on-me loneliness) — and it gets a shot of caffeine from L.A. electro-pop artist (here, also a producer/co-writer) Robert DeLong, whose recent album “Walk Like Me” reaffirmed his abilities to turn anything neon. Dirty up this song and it’s a post-punker.
