Talk Time makes dreamy indie-rock that can’t wait for the next California sunset.

The project helmed by Edson Choi and Mike Nissen debuted in 2018. The EPs “Year of Self” (2019) and “Necessary Evil” (2021) followed, each carving their way through pastel skies with precise guitars, lush synths and Choi’s celestial vocals. Late last year, the duo got the opportunity to record a few songs with Grammy-winning producer-engineer Darrell Thorp at L.A.’s Village Studios.

And today, they released their new three-song EP, “Fever Dream,” via Wehearnoise.

“After an anxious year of pandemics/COVID variants, personal health scares and any other bad juju 2021 was laying down, this session was a perfect oasis to break the anxiety since the lockdown era started,” the duo says of the process.

The EP is highlighted by the song “The Last Time (Heavy),” which we’d call wistful if it didn’t whisk you along so briskly. It’s equal parts Choi’s vocals and Nissen’s guitar, with the cloudborne production and backing vocals from Dre Babinski (Steady Holiday) thrown in. Did we mention a tasteful guitar solo?

The EP also features “Haymaker,” a re-imagining of an unreleased demo from Choi’s old band, Warships, and an icy cool remake of Talk Time’ very first single, “Year of Self.”
