Sultry sounds from the Mediterranean shine in Gabriella Marinaro’s newest single, “Crawling Back To You.”
The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter has a deeply-rooted Italian family heritage, and her soulful pop music showcases this. Her powerful voice blends nicely with the prominent bass and light electronic percussion in “Crawling Back To You.” Together they create a serenade that tells the story of a toxic relationship that ultimately inspired Marinaro to write the music on her EP “Inner Space,” released last week.
The track is about “falling for someone who treats you badly and loving them unconditionally, chasing that feeling of when it’s good — even if it’s only a fragment of your relationship,” Marinaro says. “When I moved back to Los Angeles my first relationship was with an egotistical musician. He treated me horribly and I knew it. Although I loved him in some way, I endured the pain because it helped me write.”
It’s the lead track on “Inner Space,” which was produced by Stefan Skarbek, a onetime Amy Winehouse collaborator, among his other credits. The five-song collection discusses themes of conflicting relationships and the challenges associated with uprooting your life.
Marinaro says, “This EP closes a memorable chapter in my life and reflects the many shades of my struggles returning to Los Angeles after living in Rome, my depression and how it was reflected in my relationships.”
