L.A. duo THEY. have bent ears with their mix of silky R&B, gritty guitars and hip-hop, starting with the 2015 EP “Nü Religion.” When Drew Love and Dante Jones returned last week with a new single, “Blü Moon,” it felt like a piece of R&B history was calling and they answered.
“‘Blü Moon’ is hands down the smoothest record we’ve made yet,” Love says. “It works for any environment and feels like the perfect way to introduce the world to the ‘nu’ era,” which in this case is the duo working as independent artists.
The noirish video was directed by Priya Minhas and is a first in a series of visuals for THEY.’s new material.
“We’ve definitely grown and matured throughout our career,” says Jones, “but ‘Blü Moon’ is about those moments where we still find ourselves falling victim to temptation. Also, nostalgia is at the core of everything we do musically and visually throughout the span of our career so the video draws from the classic films of the late ’70s and early ’80s while still calling back to the R&B videos of the ’90s and ’00s.”
