It’s not unusual to hear someone say that something — a song, a movie, a joke, a caper — would appeal to their “high school self.” Singer-songwriter-funnydude Tim Heidecker is reconnecting with that persona on his new album, “High School,” out June 24.

Kurt Vile joins Heidecker on the latest single, “Sirens of Titan,” which references the first Gulf War, waterbeds, the Velvet Underground, Claudia Schiffer, Kurt Vonnegut and getting lousy grades in school.

Ben Levin directed and animated the video, full of TV screens and weird visions. “I’m so happy to have Ben Levin’s incredible talents here to put a visual spin on this song, a song which catches me in a reflective mode, thinking about some of those awkward days in my high school days, feeling weird and learning about all the cool shit,” Heidecker says. “I wrote it thinking about how Kurt Vile writes songs and I was embarrassed to send it to him, but did anyway and he liked it enough to come over and sing and play on it.”

Now, on the topic of going to prom alone …
