Sudan Archives characterizes her new single “NBPQ (Topless)” as “my autobiography” — and what is she? 27? No worries, though; this tempo-shifting track “reads” more like an action movie than a book. Her lyrical declaration “I’m not average” would surely work as a subtitle.

The L.A.-based singer-songwriter-producer-violinist, born Brittney Parks and reared in Cincinnati, makes a bid for the unofficial title Queen of the Queen City with her new album “Natural Brown Prom Queen,” arriving at a date TBA via Stones Throw Records. It’s her second full-length, following 2019’s “Athena.”

The songwriter says the new single is “about my insecurities that I have being a brown skin Black female in the world and how to navigate through that while facing American beauty standards. It’s a song of redemption and freedom.”

Her fall tour starts and ends in California, capped by an October date at the Lodge Room.
