Chris Hackman — aka Human Barbie — flexed his lo-fi genius on the 2020 album “Get a Life” — and elevated the collection’s psych-pop mood swings by collaborating with filmmaker Justin Possenti on a companion video series titled “Life of Ed.” (“Be Careful What You Wish For,” the ninth final episode of the brilliant series, which stars Ed Mattiuzzi and Jessie Rabideau, came out this spring.)

Now, Human Barbie having “crawled into a pocket universe of guitars and dark rooms and phaser pedals,” Hackman says, it’s on to the next challenge. Today, he announced that a new Human Barbie EP, “No Worries,” will be out Oct. 12.

The title track — a soft, slo-mo shoegazer that sighs and swells with emotional resignation — typifies Human Barbie’s understated powers. “It’s weird I know / I thought it was a thing you really wanted / Thought you would fight for,” he sings as he practices the art of letting go.

Garrett Hanson directs the video, which features the songwriter joined by guitarist Louie Gonzales, drummer Matt Brundrett and vocalist/tambourine player Xuan Nguyen.

The EP will be out via Poor Man Records, home to Broken Baby, Young Winona, Pure Adult and more.
