Portmouth, U.K.-born and L.A.-based alternative rocker Fox Fagan recently released an EP of his own, “Daydream Mindtones,” and a trippy desert video for lead single “Let’s Get Lost.” The multi-instrumentalist has made a name for himself playing bass with Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters), multi-platinum selling Israeli artist Ninet Tayeb, ’90s pop trio Wilson Phillips and as a member of L.A. shoegazers Teleskopes.

“Daydream Mindtones” is a project that came out of the pandemic, allowing Fagan to run wild in isolation by experimenting with new sounds and styles. “At one point I wasn’t sure if I should release this stuff under my name, or start a new artist project and give it a name,” he says. “One name I had come up with was the Daydream Mindtones. I ended up using that as the name of this first EP. I call it my first because it’s the first one I’ve really created, and produced it all. I’ve gone through a lot with these songs and it’s definitely time to let them go and find new homes with whoever is listening.” With tracks ranging in styles from alt-blues in “Hot Streets of Hell” to the mesmerizing, trippy psych track “Gotta Get Out” and the disco-funky lead single “Let’s Get Lost,” there’s definitely a home for every track on the EP.

Fagan’s lyrics are beckoning in “Lets Get Lost,” as, in director Jon Delouz’s video, he wanders through the desert and stumbles upon “sand-witches” (not sandwiches, unfortunately), then finds himself at a desert party surrounded by glittering disco dancers. “I spend the day just dreaming / It’s time to get outside / I turn the TV off you know they got you hypnotized / I’m gonna take you somewhere / Where we don’t need a phone / Cos I can’t get off of it,” Fagan sings, ready to hit the road for a few days after spending too long in isolation.
