Nice to hear from you again, Mr. Keith Morris. Has it really been 11 years since we lost our minds together at Coachella? Eight years since you lost your bandmates (and Jack Black) in that skydiving escapade? We miss trying to decode your wide-eyed, howling-good screeds.
We hear that you and Dmitri Coats have some new bandmates in OFF! Justin Brown is doing the drumming now (replacing Mario Rubalcaba), and Autry Fulbright II (replacing Steven McDonald, whose boyish shenanigans we’ll miss dearly). And that on Sept 30, Fat Possum will release the first OFF! album in eight years, “Free LSD.” And that — what? — that’s also the title of a “weird sci-fi” film coming next year? Wow.
What did you say about the OFF! reboot? “After making music for as long as I have, it was time to use a palette that includes lime green, turquoise, and magenta instead of the typical colors and shades that were involved in all of the other breakneck and car chase scenarios. Miles Davis with Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters as opposed to ‘Milo Goes to College.’” Sounds good to us.
So we’re gonna genuflect a little, spend a few minutes with the video for “War Above Los Angeles” and contemplate this avalanche of news. We promise, no more AARP jokes.
