JMSEY is the music moniker of James Cavern, whom many know from his work in the band Hobo Johnson & the LoveMakers. Born in London, he moved to the Sacramento area and there nurtured a solo career — an EP and a raft of singles of quirky but intense pop — before relocating to L.A.
Beck Pete, aka Rebecca Peters, debuted in 2019 and earlier this year released the seven-song pop-rock collection, “Scared of Everything, Pt. 1,” which included her ballad “Romantic.”
Together, JMSEY and Beck Pete bust a vein or two on the new rocker “I’ll Be Okay,” a Strokes-meets-pop-punk banger that doesn’t quite sound like anything in either artist’s catalog. Yes, the title represents some wishful thinking — “I’d like to think that you may be missing me,” JMSEY sings. It’s no use, of course.
