The Rocky Valentines

“Saw my dad with friends, played in bands / Never thought this would be the plan,” songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Charlie Martin sings on his debut EP as the Rocky Valentines.

Martin, 19, son of indie-rock luminary Jason Martin of Starflyer 59, this week releases his first single. “Off & On” is a surging, sturdy and mostly sunny rocker with Martin’s youthful vocals and guitars crackling like the indie-rock old guard.

Charlie Martin, who manned drums on Starflyer 59’s recent releases, plays all the instruments on the Rocky Valentines’ four-song EP. Jason Martin produces, Bryce Rivera mixes and TW Walsh (ex-Pedro the Lion and Jason Martin’s bandmate in Lo Tom) did the mastering.

The EP will be released Sept. 2 via Velvet Blue Music.
