Jason Chung, the writer-composer who does business as Nosaj Thing, once described his process as “all about sculpting” the components of his moody, luxurious soundscapes. He leaves scant rough edges on his ethereal music; it’s muscle relaxant for the mind and soul.

So it is with his new single, “Blue Hour,” a collaboration with Julianna Barwick and the first taste of “Continua,” his first album in five years.

A couple years ago, Nosaj Thing collaborated on the Barwick song “Nod,” from her album “Healing Is a Miracle.” Now she lends her vocals to “Blue Hour,” which also features composer Michael Andrews (“granular synthesis”), Amir Yaghmai (viola) and Sunny Levine (co-production).
