Old soul, nu-soul, alt-soul … L.A.-based trio Gabriels somehow sounded like the beginning, middle and future over the course of two EPs they released last year.

The band — Compton-bred gospel singer Jacob Lusk, U.K.-born producer-keyboardist Ryan Hope, and producer-composer-violinist Ari Balouzian, an L.A. native — today announced the arrival of their debut album. Well, the first part of it, anyway.

Part 1 of “Angels & Queens” — seven songs — comes out Sept. 30, in the middle of a run of shows that Gabriels have supporting Harry Styles in Austin. The second installment will arrive in March 2023.

Speaking of soul, Lusk sings like he’s inextricably conjoined with somebody’s on the album’s title track … if she doesn’t sell it to someone or something else.
