AWOLNATION, returning to live performances in a big way, brought their Falling Forward Tour to the Hollywood Palladium on Friday night, the first hometown show for the L.A. rockers since 2018.

A lot has happened since. In 2020, Aaron Bruno and gang released their fourth full-length, “Angel Miners & the Lightning Riders,” although the massive tour they had planned to support it was scotched by the pandemic. Last year, they celebrated the 10th anniversary of their debut, “Megalithic Symphony,” with the release of a deluxe edition of the record. And this year, AWOLNATION released the collaborator-filled covers album, “My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers and Me.”

Friday’s concert included five songs from that debut, including “Sail” to finish the night. One track from the covers album made the cut — Hyro the Hero joined AWOLNATION for Biz Markie’s “Just a Friend,” a song Bruno has said he “used to sneak into my older brother’s room to listen to …” The version on the album was recorded before Markie’s death last summer.

They opened the night with “Freaking Me Out,” one of two new singles they have released this fall.

Setlist: Freaking Me Out, Slam (Angel Miners), Soul Wars, People, Kill Your Heroes, Run, The Best, Radical, Handyman, Passion, Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf), Knights of Shame (feat. Hyro the Hero). Encore: Just a Friend (feat. Hyro the Hero), Pacific Coast Highway In The Movies, Sail
