Bedrock LA, the Echo Park studio/rehearsal/retail complex that has been home to thousands of Los Angeles musicians, is closing after 13 years. Bedrock’s co-owners said the landlord plans to demolish the the 40,000-square-foot building.
“To say the least, we are devastated,” Bedrock’s co-founders Phil Feinman, Cosmo Jones and Kamran V said. “Real estate developers consistently market arts culture to sell and rent properties in neighborhoods like Echo Park, only to simultaneously extinguish these very communities in favor of their bottom line.”
The facility went into limbo in the fall of 2021 when a structural issue was detected. After several months, it became apparent that the landlord did not intend to repair the building, Bedrock’s owners explained in an Instagram post.
The sprawling facility included more than 100 rooms used as recording studios, rehearsal spaces and lockouts and also as an equipment retailer and repair shop. Its bustling traffic made it a creative hub for many in L.A.’s music community. Over the years, Bedrock hosted many events, including Bedrocktoberfests.
Bedrock LA will be having a going-out-of-business sale from noon to 6 p.m. this Saturday, selling hundreds of drum kits, guitar amplifiers, keyboards, cables and accessories from its inventory.
