Singles roundup: Check out new songs from Liily, Jules Duke and Cary Brothers …
LIILY, “Applause”
L.A. quartet Liily — Sam De La Torre, Dylan Nash, Maxx Morando and Charlie Anastasis — return with the industrial-strength body-mover “Applause,” their first single since their debut album, “TV or Not TV,” released in October 2021. “I guess you can say ‘Applause’ is our own take on a dance song and an exciting follow-up to our first record,” the band says. “It shows the gradual artistic growth inspired by our first year touring post-pandemic and the necessary performative and sonic shift we endured becoming a four-piece.” Liily performs at the Highland Park Ebell Club on Dec. 22 and at Pappy & Harriet’s on Dec. 23.
JULES DUKE, “Double Trouble”
The second single from Jules Duke, the solo project of Julian Ducatenzeiler (Mystic Braves), goes hard into Bee Gees-styled disco. “Double Trouble” is the follow-up to “Toast,” released last month. Warm up your falsetto and, as the announcement suggests, dig out your bell bottoms. See Jules Duke live at Venice West tonight.
CARY BROTHERS, “Stardust”
Fans of the Postal Service might do a double-take upon hearing the start of Cary Brothers’ new single. So naturally we’re a sucker for it. “Stardust” appears in the forthcoming Zach Braff film “A Good Person,” starring Florence Pugh and Morgan Freeman and releasing in March. The song — and Brothers himself — appears in the trailer for the movie, too. Brothers’ “Neon Lovers” came out last month.
