Longtime Patti Smith guitarist and acclaimed music historian Lenny Kaye hosts this year’s Wild Honey Foundation benefit for the Autism Healthcare Collective on Friday, May 19, at the Alex Theatre in Glendale.
The night will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the renowned Kaye-curated music compilation, “Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968,” first released in 1972 and due for a limited release again at this spring’s Record Store Day via celebration co-host Rhino Records. The influential collection of garage rock and psychedelia is one of the first publications to use the term “punk rock.”
The Wild Honey Orchestra Nuggets All-Star Band this year, led by Kaye with Wild Honey veterans Rob Laufer and Andrew Sandoval, will include guests Peter Buck (R.E.M.), Elliot Easton (Cars), Darian Sahanaja & Debbie Shair (Brian Wilson Band), Kathy Valentine (The Go–Go’s), Scott McCaughey (Minus 5, Young Fresh Fellows, Baseball Project, R.E.M.), Johnny Echols (Love), Billy Vera, Jim Pons (the Leaves), David Aguilar (Chocolate Watchband), “Weird Al” Yankovic, Van Dyke Parks, Peter Case, John Easdale, Carla Olson, Evie Sands and more.
