Stream: Battle Tapes, ‘One Night in Burbank’

As Battle Tapes, Josh Boardman and Riley Mackin have been dialing up their disco-meets-industrial muscle for more than a decade now. Besides their 2015 full-length, a handful of EPs and assorted singles, the songwriting-production duo have found their way into myriad TV shows, video games and movie trailers.

Now they’re plotting the May 5 release of a new full-length, “Texture.”

Their new single, “One Night in Burbank,” might not make a hard man humble, but it does put Battle Tapes’ signature hard edge on ’80s dance music. “I’m always looking for ways to push the boundaries of what’s expected in pop-rock music,” Boardman says. “‘One Night in Burbank’ is a perfect example of that. It’s a song that combines the nostalgia of the ’80s and ’90s with a sound uniquely Battle Tapes. The lyrics may be about a night of drug use and self-destructive behavior, but the song ultimately celebrates the human experience, both the highs and the lows.”

“One Night in Burbank” follows last year’s release of the equally kinetic singles “In Too Deep” and “If Only.”
