It was back in the throes of the pandemic that theatrical pop-rockers Saint Motel rolled out their third album, the aspirationally titled “The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.” Almost two summers later, they are only now giving the album a proper ride on tour (which they’re calling “The Awards Show,” naturally).
Time marches on, and the L.A. quartet returned on Friday with their first new music single, the single “Everyone’s A Guru Now.”
It’s a jaunty piano-driven stomper, orchestrated for (ahem) widescreen enjoyment. Fans of Saint Motel’s dapper derring-do will not be disappointed.
“The song started out with this tipsy piano saunter and grew from there,” main man A/J Jackson says. “Around the time I was writing the song, a lot of people I knew had been reinventing themselves as ‘experts’ and creating personas and courses. Perhaps some of that rubbed off on the lyrical matter. In the final phases of the song production, it ended up being a matter of what elements we could take away from the song and still let it stand.”
