Australian rock legends Hoodoo Gurus were tardy in celebrating their 40th anniversary — not their fault, right pandemic? — but the lockdown did yield their 10th album, “Chariot of the Gods,” made in 2021 and released this past March.
Songs from that album were sprinkled into their career-spanning set on Tuesday night at the Roxy, a show that wrapped up the North American tour for the band, which formed in 1981.
The crowd of mostly long-timers at it up, hearing frontman Dave Faulkner and mates rip through a two-encore performance that included selections from eight of their full-lengths. Their 1984 debut, “Stoneage Romeos,” was most heavily represented, but the quartet put an exclamation point on the night by finishing the second encore with their biggest Australian single, 1986’s “What’s My Scene?”
“Come Anytime,” their highest-charting U.S. single, from 1989, was neatly wedged two-third of the way through their main set. Absent from their set, though, was the new song that possibly best represents the past three years, and their four decades together, “Carry On.”
