Polartropica’s profile has gone north since the (unfortunately timed) release of their debut album, “Dreams Come True,” in March 2020.
Notable was the 2022 video for “What’s Your Fantasy,” a tribute to L.A.’s queer and trans community, which ended up earning plaudits in film festivals and short film/music video contests.
Now Ihui Cherise Wu, maker of dress-up dream-pop, psychedelic disco and intergalactic goth-pop, is back with a new single, “Ride or Die.” Collaborating on this one is L.A.-based Frenchman Jules de Gasperis, aka Edgar Everyone, and sure enough, “Ride or Die” has more of a Euro feel. In sum, it’s a summery bop about the urges that changes in season bring.
Now if only the May gray (and June gloom) would go away.
