The 26th season of the Skirball Cultural Center’s free outdoor music series, Sunset Concerts, will kick off Thursday, July 20.
The series, boasting a typically global reach and spanning six Thursday nights, brings veteran R&B man and protest singer Billy Valentine, Cuban rapper and spoken-word artist Telmary, Ethiopian-Israeli singer AvevA, West African powerhouse Sona Jobarteh, L.A. indie-rocker Ian Sweet and Brooklyn-bred jazz phenoms Antibalas to the Skirball courtyard.
Admission is free; reservations for the shows open Thursday here. Parking is $20 (more inexpensive if reserved online), and as always food and beverages will be available. Doors open for each show at 6:30 p.m.
“For over a quarter century, Sunset Concerts has served as a dynamic space for Angelenos of all ages and backgrounds to gather, connect and enjoy world-class music together in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains,” says Skirball president and CEO Jessie Kornberg, Skirball President and CEO. “By highlighting music from multiple diasporas and providing diverse and enriching cultural experiences for all who attend, our free annual concert series fully exemplifies the Skirball’s guiding Jewish principle of welcoming the stranger.”
