Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band on Thursday night gave the crowd at the Greek Theatre a comfy and wide-ranging tour of rock history with a long, feel-good set of covers and Ringo originals.
It was Starr’s first appearance at the Greek in about four years.
His band of stars on this night included Edgar Winter (The Edgar Winter Group), Colin Hay (Men at Work), Hamish Stuart (Average White Band), Steve Lukather (Toto), Warren Ham (Toto, Kansas) and Gregg Bissonnette. Thusly, songs by the Edgar Winter Group, Men at Work, Average White Band and Toto were sprinkled through the group’s 24-song set, along with five Beatles songs.
The evening ended, appropriately, with a rendition of “With a Little Help From My Friends,” for which the All Starrs were joined by even more stars — Benmont Tench, Jim Keltner, Howard Jones and David Paich.
Setlist: Matchbox, It Don’t Come Easy, What Goes On, Free Ride, Rosanna, Pick Up the Pieces, Pick Up the Pieces, Down Under, Boys, I’m the Greatest, Yellow Submarine, Cut the Cake, Frankenstein, Octopus’s Garden, Back Off Boogaloo, Overkill, Africa, Work to Do, I Wanna Be Your Man, Johnny B.
