Video: Les Biches, ‘Blue Passage’

L.A. quartet Les Biches originally intended to release their debut album in mid-2020, but, pandemic and all, the theatrically titled “Gentlemen Sailing Into Darkness” turned out to be an EP.

It was an apt introduction to the foursome’s evocative, ’80s-reminiscent brand of rock — a vastness characterized by ringing guitars, lavish arrangements and Keith Joyner’s melodramatic lyrics.

Now Joyner — who started Les Biches as a solo project — and co-conspirators Chris Candelaria (his bandmate in Twinstar), Dusty Starr and Kevin Pinnt have announced the Nov. 10 arrival of their debut full-length, “The Mysteries.”

Soaked in U2-like grandeur, “Blue Passage” is the album’s siren call, melancholic and vaguely menacing, referencing “veiled messages” that in 2023 have given way to “true animus.” Maybe “The Mysteries” will unlock a puzzle or two, or at least shine a light on this moment in time.

The stylized performance video for “Blue Passage” was directed by Jeff Frey.
