Six albums, a handful of collaborations and her work soundtrack work for the 2022 horror film “X” later, Chelsea Wolfe still finds a way to shine a light into, around and through the darkness.
Last month, with the arrival of the new single “Dusk,” the singer-songwriter announced her new affiliation with Loma Vista Recordings, after releasing her previous four albums on Sargent House. The latest, “The Birth of Violence,” came out in 2019.
“Dusk” imagines a powerful but tortured love — “Branded, baptized / by your love and by your hunger,” she sings almost desperately over foreboding, yawning synths. About the 3-minute mark, the song explodes into an imposing shredder. Of the song, Wolfe says: “The friends or lovers have gone through hell and back but are still and always united in the end by love, like pottery gone through the fire, broken and pieced back together.”
The song, which was produced by Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio) and mixed by Shawn Everett, finds Wolfe backed by Ben Chisholm (synth), Jess Gowrie (drums) and Bryan Tulao (lead guitar).
The release was accompanied by the announcement of a 24-date tour beginning next February and ending in L.A. on March 30.
