Sun Room emerged during the pandemic as a next-next-next-next generation surf-pop band, and three EPs in, the band has done nothing but make catchy, scratchy rays of sunshine.

For their new single “At Least I Tried” — the follow-up to February’s EP “Outta Their Minds” — they worked with a surf-rock torchbearer from the previous generation, Zac Carper of FIDLAR.

On their brisk new jam, which arrives as Sun Room criss-crosses the country on a headlining tour (SoCal dates in late November) — singer-guitarist Luke Asgian, guitarist Ashton Minnich and bassist Max Pinamonti sound as if they’re in a hurry. They mostly always do.

The new video captures the frenzy of touring, playing, partying and all the accompanying high jinx … rinse and repeat. “The second I dropped out of school and Sun Room started touring,” Asgain says, “a bunch of my friends suddenly thought I had all this money, all of sudden, and thought I had it all together … but that wasn’t true at all. If anything, life just got more hectic in an almost comical way. Going on tour, especially because we were winging it, things go wrong more often than not, and you just gotta laugh it off and try to figure out where to go from there.”

He adds: “Some of our favorite stories from the road are when everything goes completely wrong and you just end up sitting there dying laughing at yourselves because you can’t believe how wrong things turned out. I think that’s kind of where ‘At Least I Tried’ came from — finding fun in the chaos of life and being in a touring band.”
