Windows, the brainchild of Matteo Arias (Golden Animals, Mystic Braves), inhabit the woozy corners of West Coast psych-pop, surf-rock and California country. Whatever influences they stir into the stew, their music tastes like jangling goodness.

Founded in 2018, the project took off (as much as they could) with the release of two singles during the pandemic.

This spring, Windows returned with two singles, “High Sierra Lows” and “Long-While,” each full-band tracks with their own degree of twangy, retro charm. Joining Arias on the songs are guitarist Spencer Alarcon, bassist Sam Wotherspoon, keyboardist Mikey Whiteside, drummer Joseph Loeffler and pedal steel player Grady Kinnoin. The songs will appear on Windows’ long-in-the-works debut album, “Raindrops on the Open Road,” coming in 2024.

Last week, in time for a tour that continues tonight at Seattle’s Freakout Festival, Arias unveiled two solo works, “Upstairs” and “Fernwood Ave.” — two older songs he unearthed and recorded solo “in true lo-fi bedroom fashion that fits the mood of the songs and teeters between a melancholy daze and joyful bliss.”
